Clerkships at Silverman Thompson

At Silverman Thompson, we are proud to offer full-time summer and part-time year-round clerkships for law students where they become immersed in our litigation firm’s research and trial work.

Summer Clerkships

Each year, we hire up to six law students from across the country to join our firm for the summer to assist attorneys in various departments with substantive legal work. These law students partake in research writing and hands-on experience, gaining invaluable mentorship. Alongside an immersive experience at a top litigation firm, summer associates spend a day in court, have lunch with a local judge, and participate in a variety of firm-wide social and networking events.

Meredith McKinnon leads Silverman Thompson’s summer clerkship program. After graduating magna cum laude from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 2021, Meredith began her career as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Robert J. Thompson of the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County. In addition to leading the clerkship program, Meredith maintains an extensive business litigation practice, focusing on high-stakes disputes involving commercial contract breaches, shareholder and partnership conflicts, fraud and business torts, and restrictive covenants and trade secrets. Meredith advises a diverse range of clients across industries including technology, financial services, manufacturing, and professional services.

The clerkship program provides law students with meaningful one-on-one experience with attorneys across a broad range of practice areas. Law clerks are involved in initial case intake, conduct legal research, assist with drafting dispositive motions, prepare for depositions, and support our attorneys with trial strategy and courtroom presentation.

Those interested in applying for our summer clerkship program are encouraged to do so before November 21, 2025. Please reach out to Senior Partner Andrew Slutkin for all inquiries and send a CV and transcript to firm@silvermanthompson.com before the deadline.

Part-Time Clerkships for Law Students

We hire a handful of local law students, including past summer associates, to work as law clerks throughout the year to gain hands-on firm experience while completing their law degrees.  Silverman Thompson frequently hires students from the University of Baltimore School of Law and the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, offering flexible hybrid working hours and scope of projects.

Typically, our law clerks perform legal research and analysis of complex issues; draft discovery requests and responses, motions, and legal memoranda; perform factual investigations and summaries; and help prepare materials for hearings or trials. In addition, law clerks are invited to observe and participate in client meetings, depositions, hearings, and trials. Silverman Thompson also provides networking opportunities and encourages attendance of social events within and outside the firm to foster professional development.

We accept applications on a rolling basis and typically start hiring by Thanksgiving for the following year. Please reach out to Senior Partner Andrew Slutkin for all inquiries and send a CV and transcript to firm@silvermanthompson.com at your earliest convenience.
