Joe Stephan is an associate in the Firm’s family law department.

Mr. Stephan represents clients in variety of family law matters, including complex divorces, marital settlement agreements, high-conflict custody disputes, parenting agreements, adoptions, contempt actions, child support matters, protective orders, peace orders, and appeals. He is a creative problem-solver, meticulous researcher, persuasive writer, and skilled litigator.  

Mr. Stephan initially joined Silverman Thompson as a law clerk after being awarded the firm’s University of Baltimore School of Law Fellowship: an honor awarded to one UB Law 1L, which includes a two-year scholarship, a one-year fellowship stipend, and a position in the Firm’s Summer Associate Program. He later rejoined the firm as an attorney after serving as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Colleen A. Cavanaugh, during Judge Cavanaugh’s term as the lead Family Law Judge on the Circuit Court for Baltimore County. 

Mr. Stephan graduated summa cum laude from the University of Baltimore School of Law with a concentration in Business Law. He was a distinguished scholar of the Royal Graham Shannonhouse III Honor Society and an Associate Managing Editor for the University of Baltimore Law Review. Mr. Stephan also worked as a Student Attorney in the Community Development Clinic, where he represented nonprofit organizations and community-oriented small businesses. During law school, he also served as a Research Assistant, a Law Scholar, and a Fellow in the Maryland State Bar Association – University of Baltimore Business Law Clerkship Program.
