The MSBA Lawyer Assistance Program
The Maryland State Bar Association (MSBA) Lawyer Assistance Program (LAP) is available to all lawyers in Maryland and provides free, confidential assistance to lawyers, judges, law school students, and support staff by offering virtual assessment, referral, short-term counseling, and continued support to ensure long term success. This service is particularly helpful to members of our legal community who suffer from a variety of disabilities, whether substance use disorders, mental health challenges, or physical disabilities that create additional stresses.
Silverman Thompson has been at the forefront of implementing the objectives of the LAP into its continuing education programs, by providing lunch and learns, wellness talks, and informal resources to members of our firm who may need LAP’s help. Office Drives
Every year, Silverman Thompson gives back to the community by participating in a toy drive for the Bar Association of Baltimore City Holiday Party for Children Living in Shelters and a school supply drive for children experiencing homelessness.
, 2025’s Holiday Party for Children Living in Shelters at the Science Center was one of the largest groups in recent memory. All of the kids in attendance were living at homeless or domestic violence shelters in Baltimore City and were invited to attend this Holiday Party during a season that is often difficult for their families. The room was filled with painted faces, ornaments and picture frames the kids decorated for the holidays, a dining room that served up hundreds of meals, and greetings with special guests throughout the night (the Oriole Bird, Candy Cane Patrol, the Grinch, several elves, of course, Santa).
One of the best parts of the night was that every child got to leave with a gift. Every toy and dollar you donated went toward those gifts for the children, and we were able to supply all of them thanks to our team.
If you’ve ever wondered what 265+ gifts look like, this is it!

The firm has also held a women’s and men’s professional clothing drive to support individuals in our community to achieve economic independence by providing professional attire to help them interview and obtain employment. Over 70% of attorneys and staff consistently engage with these efforts, proving a consistent commitment to community donations.

Our attorneys and staff recently supported Empower4Life, an organization that strives to provide every homeless child in Baltimore and Harford County shelters with the supplies needed for confidence and academic success. Silverman Thompson attorneys and staff donated school supplies and sponsored eight children with a brand-new backpack and back-to-school outfit.
In December 2024, the firm held its annual toy drive for the Holiday Party for Children Living in Shelters. All of the kids in attendance live at homeless or domestic violence shelters in Baltimore City. At the end of the night, over 200 children left with a gift because of the generous donations from Silverman Thompson.
