Firm Halts Enforcement of $33.6 Million Judgment

The Maryland Court of Special Appeals issued a rare stay of enforcement of a $33.6 million judgment obtained by retired Raven Michael McCrary against his one-time partners in a New Orleans condominium project. The Court made the unusual move of staying the enforcement of the judgment, absent the posting of an appeal bond, at the request of appellant’s counsel during oral argument. Silverman Thompson partner Steven D. Silverman briefed and argued the appeal on behalf of the defendant/appellants Stuart Fisher, Tamara Fisher and Ed Giannasca. Silverman Thompson was engaged to handle the appeal but did not represent the defendants at the trial level. Although the stay is a good sign of things to come, a decision is not expected for at least thirty days.
